“I have enjoyed working with Kevin in both Ear Training and Composition. I especially liked The Composing Hour: Inner Ear Training course. I found the meditative approach quite effective and even relaxing. It certainly opened my ear and changed the way I hear music, whether externally when I am playing my instrument, listening to recorded music, or internally when listening to the inner music I hear which becomes the basis of my composing activities. The 40 minute sessions are well presented and proceed at a comfortable pace. I also appreciate the 7 minute quick refreshers that are tied to each session. They are a great addition that provide a quick review of the essential material in the 40 minute sessions.
In Composition class Kevin is very generous with his time and his knowledge. The depth of his knowledge is considerable. He is very open and attuned to his students and is always able to meet them where they are to offer essential support and encouragement. Kevin is a natural and gifted educator. It shows in the courses he has developed and shines when he is teaching live online classes.”

"Kevin’s Flawless Ear Training offers a chance to master a skill that every musician or composer knows they need: the ability to audiate or “hear” pitches before writing or playing them. His course provides a powerful regimen of bite-sized lessons that enable you to develop your ear and almost immediately recognize improvement. I highly recommend that any serious musician try this foundational course."

"I took musicianship courses with Kevin when I was back in college, and I have seen so much growth in my music theory and ear training skills. Kevin's courses have taught me how to sight-read music, and to analyze musical scores effectively. I enjoyed taking Kevin's courses because Kevin taught me what I needed to know to become successful with my craft. By taking Kevin's courses, it has allowed me to not only go out and perform, but also provide private instruction to students of all ages. If you want to strengthen your musicianship skills, you should try Kevin's musicianship courses. You will notice a big difference in your musicianship skills, guaranteed."

"I'm finding the work to be an interesting dive into the inner world of the musical imagination. It's unlike anything else I've done, in a world that objectifies and commodifies everything, entering more deeply into the subjectivity of music, as its own reward, is unusual.
Kevin is a terrific teacher, I'm enjoying the work."
Composing Hour Student
“I have been learning composition with Kevin for a few years now. When I sought him out I had already been writing music but instinctively knew that I need an “education” to advance further. Kevin not only encouraged, affirmed and built on my strengths and talents but also has provided the framework and education materials that I had been lacking, not having had a formal degree in music. However, my lifetime spent with music was a good backdrop to build on with the classes and education Kevin provides. While Kevin’s approach is quite informal and casual ( which I personally like and enjoy ) you will find that you have picked up all the formal concepts and resources you need to advance as a composer in the time you would have spent with him. For people like me that have serious professional level interest in music and in advancing our art, the type of education Kevin provides is invaluable.”
I was shocked at 13:14, I could actually hear the overtones of that C so clearly. I don't know if that was just the instrument or if it was my hearing improving, but if it was the latter, then this course's benefits have started way sooner than I expected. I never heard overtones before until today. Thank you for making these videos.
Nice introduction! Last time, I was struggling to sing the correct notes. I have practiced it with a tuner app on my phone and have noticed that I am now better at identifying the correct note that I sing. I am eager to do one lesson every day from now on.
That was great. Always had a mediocre ear, but you explained it extremely clearly, in a way that was immediately applicable. Thank you.
I like this!!! We're digging deep! I've excitedly been waiting for the release of this training. Thank you for making it available Kevin!
Your teachings are the best! Very informative and insightful. Great job!! Keep them coming.
I really enjoyed this. I could do the exercises but absolutely believe in the value of doing the basics really well. And - being a guitarists - it had never occurred to me to practise transcribing like this! I look forward to the gradual progression!
It is getting easier!! Tbh I am doing this while at work (I'm a baker so the beginning portion of the day I'm just getting things set up so it's easy to listen in this first part of the day) it's amazing!
Hi Kevin, I cannot thank you enough for putting these lessons together. I found it so helpful and now doing it everyday or at least 6 days a week. I found the interval or chord exercise the most challenging. However, they’re getting much easier now. I am starting to hear each individual notes in both chords and interval. Thank you so much!
These are truly unique lessons! Mirror excercise is a genius invention, never heard of that before. This lesson really exposed my weaknesses in identifying chords solely by ear, so I need to work extra on that.
This feels like a real lesson with a great teacher! I really love the pace and acknowledgement of the importance of "building up" mastery, rather that sort of "land on perfection with this 30 second tip". I was expecting Interval or Chord section to be very tough, but this time it was the easiest one, so I passed this lesson close to 95% (no mistakes in pitch notation!)
Hello. I have a moderately well trained ear and I'm still enjoying these lessons. I get what you're driving at by starting ultra minimal and slowly refining the student's hearing over time. I hope you will continue this course through to its completion even if only 100 or so people are viewing it. I haven't found anything else like this and I personally want to see it all the way through myself. Thanks for putting the course together. It is making a difference, so please keep it going!
This training actually works. Thank you so much.
