Liszt: A Revolutionary in Music and Teaching

Liszt was an accomplished composer, virtuoso pianist, conductor, and teacher who taught group lessons. And today is his birthday! He was born on October 22, 1811.
Most musicians don't realize that many great music teachers did not teach private lessons. They taught in groups.
The reason these masters taught in groups is that they were swamped being masters themselves, but they wanted to share their knowledge. Group lessons offer an interaction and learning environment you can't get in private lessons.
As I think back to all the teachers I have studied with through the years, the moments of greatest epiphany usually occurred within a group setting. You can improve at an incredibly increased pace by sharing and interacting with great composers and musicians. Private lessons are rarely in the best interest of the students.
While private lessons are beneficial at certain stages of the compositional process, it makes more sense for composers to learn foundational principles they can apply to their compositions.
In the Internet age, teaching in a way that has never been done before is possible. Students can benefit from group and private lessons in a new format that truly brings results. I encourage you to join my studio and discover how you can be a greater composer than you imagined.
